Dire Straits
Today, Dire Straits’ music sound charmingly cliché and ambitious, but back in the eighties, every single guitarist wanted to sound just like Mark Knopfler and that typical intermediary strat setting. Taking a hint from J.J Cale, Dylan and country picker Chet Atkins, Knopfler added his British sensitivity to the mix to create tracks like Sultans Of Swing and Money For Nothing, both of which are still compulsory exercises for any guitarists looking to expand his playing.
