Heitor Villa-Lobos
Before the twentieth century came along, classical music and legitimate composers were almost exclusively a European affair. But it all changed with the arrival of Brazilian composer Villa Lobos. Through his study of the guitar, cello and clarinet he had mastered the pre-existing tradition but managed to add a unique taste of Brazilian folklore to his own compositions. The popularity of his work opened the door for the following generations of South-american composers.
