Progressive rock bands usually don't get that successful, but the American institution Kansas proved that you don't need to compromise to get yourself heard. They hit the big time with Carry On Wayward Son and Dust In The Wind in the mid-seventies, but went on to record platinum selling albums after that, featuring the guitar antics of Rich Williams, as well as future Deep Purple virtuoso Steve Morse in the mid-eighties.
