Everything about Ludwig Van Beethoven is legendary, from his deafness to his bust decorating every piano, and his Ninth Symphony becoming the European hymn. The German composer of the late eighteenth century is familiar even to people who have no interest in music whatsoever. He learned his craft during the classical era and was part of the transition towards Romanticism, and even though his symphonies are his most popular works, he also composed many brilliant piano pieces.
