Finding tabs

How do I find tabs on MSB? |

Tabs are listed by artist. You have different ways to find what you are looking for:
- you can search for a tab by entering the name of the song in the 'Search
tab' box in the upper left corner of the main page.
Tip: If you do not know or are not sure of the full name of the song you can search just for a partial title, and all tabs containing the words you searched for will be included.
- you can also look under the artists' name to see what is published.
- you can also browse per genre by using the links in the left frame.

How do I find an artist on MSB? |

You can search for the artist by typing the name of the band or the artist’s name in the search box in the upper left corner of the page. Or, you can browse alphabetically until you find the artist.
Tip: If you do not know or are not sure of the full name of the group or artists name you can search just for a partial name, and all names containing the letters/words you searched for will be included.

I found the artist I'm looking for but there are no tabs, how come? |

The artist was created following a request but no tabs have been sent yet or the tab is still waiting for validation (you can check the
Validation list).
Sometimes people ask for a new artist but never send a tab, so empty artists are erased after a while.

Is there a way to mass -download tabs? |
| |
You can mass-download tabs in the Tickets section. Downloads are proposed by style or by "new files". Pay attention that band/artist are classified using the primary style. If you are looking for a specific artist you may want to check what their primary style is by using the "search for artist" tool. You can buy tickets and you can also win tickets by joining a MSB official competition.

How can I request a tab I haven't found? |

- All tab requests should be put in the "Tab Requests" forum.
- Do not spam a topic requesting tabs.
- If you post a tab request in any of the other forums, it will be moved by a mod.
- It is very likely that your tab request will be deleted after an allotted amount of time.

The artist I am looking for does not exist. What should I do? |

If your artist is not on MSB, then there are currently no tabs for this artist. If you want a specific song for this artist, use the request forum.

Problem Downloading Tabs |

I have downloaded a tab, but I cannot open it? |
| |
All tabs on MySongBook.com are formatted for use with Guitar Pro. The most current version of this software is recommended to view every tab in the archive. Tabs generated from other versions of Guitar Pro will still be accessible with older versions of the software. To ensure that you can view all the tabs it is recommended that you have the most recent version of Guitar Pro. A demo version can be downloaded from Guitar-pro.com.

I click on the button to download the tab, but nothing happens. |

If you have a pop-up blocker, disable it before clicking. A little window pops up when you download a tab. It closes as soon as the download initializes.
Sometimes you can run into a dead link on the server. Please try to download other tabs to see if you really have a problem or not. If you find a dead link, please report it by posting in the MySongBook forum.

When you get to the download window "right-click" on the button "download" and choose "save link target as…" from the dropdown menu.

When I try and download tabs it doesn't allow me to select where I want it saved. It goes into a temp file or launches the file with GuitarPro, how come? |

[This may vary depending on your windows version, but you'll get the idea]
- Open Windows Explorer. Go to Menu - View (Sometimes Tools)->"Folder - - Options". Or Go to "Configuration Panel" ->"Folder Options"
- Click on the "File Types" tab
- Find in the list of all file extensions the GP3 and/or GP4 and/or GP5 extension and highlight it. Then click "Advanced" (sometimes "Edit"). Make sure the box that says "Confirm Open After Download" is checked. This should fix the problem.

Why are some files zipped and some not? |

At the beginning of the archive all tabs where zipped but it's not the case anymore. Files that are zipped are files that have been submitted a while ago.

I wanted to download a tab or to mass-download tabs using tickets, and I got a zip file. When I tried to unzip it, it was empty! Where are the tabs? |

There is a problem with the default Windows unzipping tool. We suggest you use WinZip or WinRar. They are available at the following websites:

When I try to open a GP4 file the program says that my version is too old, what should I do? |

You have to update your Guitar-pro software. Go to Guitar-pro.com site for more details.

You must have a minimum of 5 tabs validated before you are eligible to rate tabs. You may leave a comment, but not a rating until you have the required number of tabs.

I rated a tab, and I made a mistake on my comment and/or rating. Can I change it? |

Yes, you can. Simply go to the box at the bottom of the page that shows your comment, change it, and submit it again.

I would like a comment/rating I gave deleted. How? |

A user cannot delete their comments/ratings. You can modify it to leave it blank or ask a mod to delete it for you.

Someone posted a wrong/cruel/mean/unjustified/nasty rating on my tab. How can I have it removed? |

Post a topic in the MySongBook forum asking a validator to review & delete it if necessary. DO NOT RATE FOR SPITE!

I have received some bad ratings. So I gave those guys some low ratings in return. Now I can't rate anymore! What's going on? |

Down rating tabs in retaliation is not acceptable on Mysongbook.com. An honest rating system is what makes this a great site. If you continually down rate tabs for no apparent reason, your rating privileges can be suspended.
When you give a rating, rate the tab not the tabber. |
