hey, what do u guys think of alexi being a guitar hero? maybe not now but in the future few years will he be considered the new generation guitar hero?

i think hugo sux... the man is an absolute genious in metal terms. i think hes already a metal icon but he needs about a billion years to achieve the legend status of say a rhoads or wylde

He actually does have a punk side project besides Bodom and Sinergy. 
I haven't heard it though, so I can't comment.
I just think some or the shit he plays while singing is fuckin amazing, same with Zakk, which is why they both kick ass.

lets see u jester play some sweeping arpeggios at 250 tempo while singing at a different rythm.... Alexi is amazing, he also appears in a band called Norther, if i were u i'd check it out, very very cool band!!!

listen boyo, i went through the wow he is playing really fast that must make him amazing period a long time ago, and yes i own all children of bodom albums and norther, i still occasionally put on hatebreeder. But it all gets a little boring after a while. I want other things in music i listen to nowadays, things that cant be learnt by 12 hours practise a day and listening to yngwie malmsteen (cock).

Alexi is fast, and he is good but I wouldn't say he's a guitar hero, although i do think he sure is up there.

Alexi is one of the best, I mean playing some of those melodies while singing is pretty amazing, but yeh These days I don't listen to CoB all that much either. Sinergy i find pretty boring overall. I think Alexi's one of the best songwriters but these days Im listening to mostly technical death metal bands. Of course their are better guitarists but he obviously dosen't suck, he has clearly practiced his ass off learning his instrument so bashing him just because you dont like his style is out of line IMO.
As for being original, call me negative but I don't think it is possible to be original whatsoever these days. Everything has been done before one way or another.

ya, Livetoshred is right. I don't think there is really anyway to be orginal either cuz like he said everything has been done. I'm sure all the riffs we hear in music today has been in a song much before that, and maybe no one even realizes it

Well, Laiho might have the dexterity of a guitar hero, but he's hardly saving metal from its massive inbreeding. We need more unorthodox geniuses like Denis "Piggy" D'Amour.
As for snapping out of this creative rut in music, it's definitely possible, and fretless guitars are one way out. With those, you're not limited to just the equal-tempered chromatic tuning. You can divide an octave any way you want and get all kinds of interesting intervals. Granted, the instrument has its drawbacks and tabbing songs for it can be problematic, but on the upside, fretless guitar players say that it opens up a whole new world to them, with all those new "colors" of sound.
Also, I think we've only scratched the surface on creating new timbres or combinations of timbres, even in this digital age.

A fretless guitar is certainly an idea but it would eliminate about 99% of all metal guitar players from the genre. Hey that might be a good idea!

laiho is not just good at his instruments. He have a style of it's own. He acts like good old rock stars but in the metal genre besides being original. He may not be considered as a guitar hero but a metal icon we will remember bursting of all the identical shit most metal bands do these days sticking to the style they are labeled with(black,death,etc) He mixes up his influences to create freakin good music. He is truly one of my idols!
