Big Brother and the Holding Company
San Francisco in the mid-sixties was the mecca of psychedelic culture, with bands pushing the musical envelope further and further. Among those bands were Big Brother And The Holding Company. They entered Rock History as Janis Joplin’s band on her first two albums, including the legendary 1968 live recording Cheap Thrills. But the spectacular guitar interplay between Sam Andrey and James Gurley would have been more than enough to get them noticed.
