Chico Buarque
Musicians should always be aware of their subversive power : most dictatorships see music as a form of expression to be controlled and censored. Chico Buarque’s lyrics were so well-written and witty that the Brazilian government of the seventies banned his music, and he even had to release his albums under a different name for them to be allowed. He eventually blossomed as a great bossa nova guitarist, singer, and acclaimed novelist.
