Felix Mendelssohn
Although he was one of the most gifted German composer of the early nineteenth century, with a deep understanding of Beethoven’s style, Mendelssohn’s work remains controversial for its musical conservatism, in spite of the romantic context in which he lived. He produced an impressive amount of works, including symphonies (which he also conducted), operas, choral works or piano music, all of which are still widely performed today.
