Francesco da Milano
In the early sixteenth century, being a great lute player could bring you very far : Franceso Canova da Milano actually spent most of his life as the Pope’s personal musician. The reason for that sucess lies in the fact that his many works brought the transition from improvised pieces to the more complex style of the Renaissance. More than a hundred manuscripts have been attributed to him, and some of them almost seem written for the guitar.
