François Couperin
The organists and harpsichord players of today still revere seventeenth century composer Couperin’s works as templates of formal perfection. He had been chosen by King Louis XIV to be the organist of his chapel, and took advantage of that protection to compose many pieces, including religious compositions and preludes that were included in his method L’Art de Toucher le Clavecin. Some of those have been adapted for solo guitar, which further emphasizes their timelesness.
