The lute was the star instrument of the musical Renaissance. Sixteenth century German composer dedicated his whole life to the instrument : he played it, taught it, wrote books of songs for it and even learned how to build it as a luthier. He still found the time to be the father of seventeen children in the meantime, and most of his publications remain precious testimonies of his era.
