Jacques Brel

French singers (or Belgian in the case of Brel) have a tendency to write great poetic lyrics that don’t necessarily translate. In the case of Jacques Brel, his delivery was so intense and full of passion that many English-speaking performers took on the immense task of translating and covering his works, from David Bowie to Scott Walker and Nina Simone, Ray Charles or even Frank Sinatra.
