Joan Baez
In the late fifties, Greenwich Village was the worldwide center of the folk revival and many singer songwriters found their calling at that time, including Joan Baez. Her crystal-like voice with a very emotional vibrato as well as a precise and tasteful guitar playing led her to fame by the early sixties. She helped promote her then-boyfriend Bob Dylan (who barely returned the favor of course) and always performs today, still as politically conscious as she was then.
