R.E.M.
Though they recently decided to put an end to the band, R.E.M. has had a very impressive career, achieving commercial success while still preserving their indie credibility. The jangly Rickenbacker-infused guitar parts by Peter Buck as well as Michael Stipe’s inimitable voice inspired most of the alternative rock bands of the nineties, and their hits Losing My Religion or Shiny People remain radio favourites twenty years after their release.
