Robert de Visée
Four centuries ago, the highest distinction a musician could get was not a million-selling single or a Grammy, but to become Guitar Master Of The King. At the French royal court, a guitarist was in charge of writing and performing music for the monarch, and Robert De Visée played guitar, lute, viol and theorbo (another lesser-known plucked string instrument) for Louis XIV and Louis XV.
