Many British Invasion bands were trying to sound like their US blues and rockabilly idols but were betrayed by their youth and their lack of experience. The Animals set themselves apart thanks to a precious difference: they had an amazing singer. Eric Burdon was one of the deepest, most soulful voices ever to come out of the British Isles, and songs like House Of The Rising Sun and Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood would have been very tame without him.
