Brazil is a musical world unto itself and very rarely does a musician from that very rich background impose itself on a global scale. Luiz Bonfa was one of those very few, and reached stardom through his music for the 1959 movie Black Orpheus. But he was not only the major samba composer of his generation : his guitar skills were truly dazzling and his mastery of solo jazz improvisation makes him an equal to the American greats.
