The “Mike” in Mike + The Mechanics is none other than Mike Rutherford, the founding bass player for Genesis who also played a lot of rhythm and 12-string guitar in the band. The Mechanics include singers Paul Carrack and Paul Young, both singing in service of songwriting masterpieces. Far from the lengthy prog operas of his original band, Rutherford wrote many pop gems for his side band, including the 1989 number one hit The Living Years.
