Tyrannosaurus Rex was a great name, but singer and guitar hero Marc Bolan was probably well-advised to shorten it to T. Rex in 1969. But the change wasn’t only in the name: the band’s shifted from acoustic psychedelic folk to a very sexy brand of glam rock, featuring Bolan’s sultry voice and squeaky guitars. Their number one hits Get It On, Telegraph Sam and Metal Guru are as good as early British glam gets.
